Does anyone know of any cribs without a drop-side?
My son’s Simplicity crib was part of the 7/2/09 recall. I am having a heck of a time finding a crib that doesn’t have a drop side. I am 5′7" and honestly really don’t need the drop-side, not only because it’s unsafe and babies have died of entrapment/suffocation, but because I never even used the drop-side on the crib I had (I can reach my child even with the mattress on the lowest setting).
My husband mentioned building a crib, but he takes forever to finish stuff.
My son has been without a crib for over a month now and it’s been no fun (he was sleeping wonderfully and is now needing to be nursed to sleep in MY bed–he turns 2 this month).
I have another baby on the way, due in February, so I obviously have some time, but my son really needs a crib still. We tried just the mattress on the floor and he would go running to his door, banging his head and screaming (long gone are the days when I would lie him in there, awake, where he would fall asleep watching his Baby Einstein crib toy).
Anyway, I’m sick of these junk cribs with plastic parts and am looking for a sturdy crib, without spending a fortune.
Look..heres the deal in all honesty. I’ve rocked everyone of my children, until they were too big to be rocked (about 3 years of age) the fact is..they’re only babies for so long, and they will only let you rock them for so long. So..instead get a toddler bed…and a rocking chair..rock him to sleep in his room, then lay him in his bed..or….sit next to his bed and read to him while he falls asleep. instead of closing the door, get a baby gate that fits across..this helps them to not feel so closed in. My first daughter, I rocked her till she was 3, then I sat by her bed and read to her every night until she drifted off. By the time she was 5, she was sleeping on her own. I now have a 2 year old myself, and she sleeps in a toddler bed, I read to her at night until she too drifts off and I hate to think of the day when she says "Mommy, I’m too big for you to stay in here with me." the fact is, they are only babies for so long, and they only let us baby them for so long. So…rock him to sleep if that works, or sit by his bed and read to him..reading is great anyway. Trust me..its not like he’ll be 16 sleeping in your bed

Babies R Us has plenty of cribs without drop sides but they are quite expensive. The solid ones tend to cost more money but if you get the convertible one that can be a toddler bed and later a full sized bed it is well worth the investment.
